Are Tahitian cultured pearls always black?

No. In fact they are rarely ever black.

In 2002 FP came out with a system for color classifications called Poema that listed all available colors. I don't recall the number.

The Poema system has actually been developed by a private company, "Pacific Pearl Colors".

The Poema system seems like something that would greatly help the Tahitian pearl industry. I've always wondered why it is not more widely used in the US or abroad. It would make color classification of Tahitian pearls so much easier and no longer relative.
