Japanese Akoya crop report 2009

Postby MarcA » Tue Mar 31, 2009 2:12 pm

This year there are less quantity of very fine quallity pearls across
the pearl farming area in Japan.
"The first grade" pearls seemed to become half of last year in volume.

The price also dropped. This is not only because of global econmic crisis
but also because of much smaller proportion of very fine pearls - so called
"Hanadama" compared to a year ago.

The total volume of new "hamaage" including "Second Grade" pearls may be,
after all, 20 percent less than last year's - means that the quantity of
"Second Grade"pearls did not drop as much as "The First Grade".

Under such circumstances, however, our buying staff have made best effort
and get almost same quantity as previous years.
So, please place your order without any concern for the quantity..
